Now to interrupt the Mass Effect 3 spam with some Warhammer 40K spam!
I’ve got some Sternguard Veterans that I’ve been slowly plugging away at along with my finished (except for the bases) Eldar Rangers, Howling Banshees, one Falcon, and a Wave Serpent.

Warhammer 40K: 25 Years of Orks in Space
This Saturday marks the 25th anniversary of Warhammer 40k, which is sort of a big deal if you’re male between the ages of 13 and 60 who digs sci-fi violence and the sweet, seductive scent of acrylic paint.
no offense discoverynews, but there are women between the ages of 13 and 60 who dig sci-fi violence and the sweet, seductive scent of acrylic paint.
/Just saying.
As the lady owner of an Eldar army, a Black Templar army, half of a World Eater army and another half of an Ultramarine army… this.
I really need to get back to my Ultras. They were coming along nicely.
Word. I’ve got an Eldar army which is looking pretty darn nice, and some Blood Angels which are in need of some attention. I also have my eye on some Tyranids.
The lure of the paint is strong.

Started layering some reds on a Blood Angels Tactical Squad so I’ll know what to expect when I get to the Sternguard Vets. I’ve got:
- 1 Tactical Squad (10)
- 1 Assault Squad (5)
- 1 Death Company “Squad” (5)
- 1 Sternguard Veterans Squad (10)
The Assault Squad is going to be a group of Lamenters since I love the background on them (though that checkerboard scheme’s going to be hell), and all the others are going to be your standard Blood Angels.

So I need to get some Blood Angels painted…

…This is way too quiet. I can barely concentrate on these guys.

Anyone got some advice for the newbie Warhammer 40K painter?
I’m a beginner painter, and I would love to hear some advice from the Warhammer 40K painters.
- What kind of paint to buy
- How much would the paints roughly cost me
- And other things I should know…etc…
It’d really mean a lot to me for the advice that’s why I’m posting it on Tumblr.
Thanks.
I just got into 40K this summer, so I’m still learning a ton of new things too. One of the big tips I can give though, is to keep an eye out for any humid weather. If it’s humid when you’re priming or using the matte varnish, it’ll ruin the models. The primer will ‘fuzz’, forming little jagged points on the model, and the varnish will get cloudy and unclear, making it difficult to see any details on the model. If the varnish gets cloudy you can wait for the weather to improve and then put another light coat on the models to recover them.
Also, I’m sorry to hear about the coating issue you just had. :( A couple of thin coats of paint (you can spray them about a foot away) should be all you need to cover the models. You can use Simple Green to strip the models if the paint is too thick (or if you get metal models that are already painted), but make sure to dilute the chemical in a 1:1 or 2:1 (water : Simple Green) mixture so it won’t eat the model. After that it can sit for a few days while you scrub the paint off.
I hope this helps and that you have a fun time with the game!

Warhammer40K-Scion of Dagon by *nanya
Tyranids are pretty darn cool. That’s probably why I’m stumbling into having a tiny group of them represent my third army.

Think I’m going to try using this effect on some of my power weapons. Ugh, she’s so freaking good at painting. /Jealous
The worst part is that that was only one side of the blade. :’)
